Depression / Anxiety / Addiction

The problems we face in life can trigger depression. A few typical symptoms include a prolonged feeling of sadness, loss of interest in usual activities or activities that were once enjoyed, feeling hopeless or helpless. I am also able to help you with anxiety, which is often thought of as a mood disorder, but anxiety is a disorder unto itself. Anxiety is a short-lived, natural feeling which protects us in everyday life. However, when anxiety becomes a constant condition, it can be overwhelming and require treatment.  Addiction can be rooted in previous trauma which is left unattended. Both depression and anxiety can play a role in addiction. Many people self-medicate with alcohol, drugs, sex, or gambling to counter their feelings of depression or anxiety. If any of these issues sound familiar, I would appreciate an opportunity to help you.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-informed practice is an approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and emphasizes creating a safe, collaborative, and empowering environment. A trauma-informed practice recognizes that a client’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviours are often coping mechanisms developed to deal with stress and trauma. Unlike standard trauma therapy which focuses on treatment, trauma-informed care is the foundation for how care is delivered, aiming to minimize harm and avoid re-traumatization.

Military / Oil-Patch Spouse Support

This area of therapy holds specific importance to me. My almost twenty years of personal experience being the spouse of a military veteran and oil-patch worker, has provided me with unique personal understanding of the challenges faced when a partner has been on a long-term military deployment, or has been discharged following service to their country. I understand that as a military spouse, you also serve your country. I’m also aware through personal experience that spouses of oil-patch workers experience similar challenges of loneliness and separation when being left alone to manage life for long periods of time.
